Two or three years ago I wanted to get my first tattoo. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, because it was generally said that getting a tattoo would cause immense pain, but this can only be believed to a certain extent, because since then I have already had six tattoos done by Sheena! My first was a compass with a world map in the background. It should accompany me on the further journey – through life and through the world.
However, the tattoo of the hummingbird with the lemon tree branch has the greatest sentimental value for me. It was important for me to have a tribute to my dear grandmother engraved on my skin. In Sardinia, Italy, she had an orange tree and a lemon tree in her garden. She had wanted these trees for years and had had to work hard for a while to finally be able to plant and grow them. With the lemon branch tattoo, I want to continue to care for her beloved trees symbolically and carry on with me, so that her wish continues to be fulfilled. The hummingbird represents my grandmother. It is a rare and beautiful bird species that can always be found in the most beautiful gardens enjoying magnificent flowers. Just as my Nonna used to do.
